   I hope to see more shows like this. Five bands with RM15 at the door. First of all, the number of bands makes it easy for us to sit and go through all of them. Usually we have like 8 or more bands and that’s prety ridiculous in terms of the time it needs for us to sit through. Most of the time people would always sit out of the venue, preferring to choose the bands they wanna see, and so many new bands were skipped. If you are playing in a band, you’ll know how it feels like to play to 10 people watching.

   With a lot of bands there’s also the question of time limited to each band playing; some would overstep the limit and the show ended up with some band not able to play.

   Secondly, the pricing may have been influenced by the price of the venue, but I think RM15 at a cheaper venue will be fine, as the money will help the bands to recoup their “investments” – jamming and transport are not so cheap nowadays.

   All in, kudos to the organisers for cocking an eye on the realities of the matter. Hopefully people would support this and go see the show despite the “unusual” measures. Time is sure a-changing and we’d better move on with it or end up repeating the same problems over and over again.

    Dude i totally agree with you about the gig being kinda expensive. I mean 4-5 bands for RM15, that is blasphemy! we should have 20++ bands for that ticket price. Shit who cares about the bands, it is all about US, the KIDS. We shouldn’t care about the whole economic situation right now, it is our rights to have 20++ bands for that ticket price at every gigs (regardless of what year it is and what the economic situation). To hell with the organizer having to steal people’s TVs to cover the whole expenses… we demand what is rightfully ours and that is 20++ bands for RM15!

    Dude, I am totally down with Hellfest… shitty that they cancelled this year edition. I would definitely wait with anticipation for any new Hellfest DVD so I can learn the latest karate moves that i can practice in my bedroom… shit i had almost perfected the art of windmilling and am ready to show it to all the scenesters at the VX gig next month… wooohooo….

    dood! hellfest is the REAL hardcore man… fuck all this crappy DIY shit. if it isn’t sponsored then it is not hardcore man. real hardcore is about being hard. it is about being on on glossy mag like AP and Metal Maniacs. It is about seeing HARD bands like Suffocation, Nile, Cryptopsy… and my all time favorite HATEBREED (I WILL BE HEARD!!!). that is what hardcore is all about. it is hard to the mother fucking core!

    the thing that i really liked the most about hellfest is the mass orgy of violent dancing. real hardcore bands make you dance HARD! if you scared of getting hurt in the pit, then back off… better yet get the fuck out of hardcore because it is for HARD people like US. we don’t get laid very often but we sure enjoy showing some of our kickboxing moves to the ladies. it is not about getting laid man, it is about being HARD! hard to the motherfucking CORE. that is what hardcore all about man. that is why HELLFEST is the real deal. HELLFEST is mother fucking HARDCORE yo!

    being real and hardcore mean we can talk shit and hide behind the computer screen (FUCK YEAH!)

    This is not a purpose of justify the meaning and this email will telling all about the vitamin X gig this late november.

    So the original venue is at Pauls and the organizer change it to the my friends studio for the sake to serve better place for the gig. So we change due to the fact, Pauls have some deficiency in certain aspect (I had already do lotsa gig there so I know about it!). And for me, my friends studio is better.
    And for u who dont know, first 100 people who enter the gig will get free vitamin X CD.. And we give it for free to u. and its a good bargain as the CD cost RM 10 and u will have to pay RM 5 at the front door. That’s it! We try to give the best.

    And for selfmadecore, please meet me on the gig. I want to meet u there. We could hace some beer! :P

    i think its the gud idea about the free cd .. but juz forfirst 100 person only … did u think some of kids will come early juz to grap that cd and being bored rest of set untill VX play .. honestly for me i went to that gig bcoz of VX not other .. so if i don’t get that cd also … is ok coz i have most of all meterial that been release from them … from the commitment records untill now .. so if this 100 cd is a bonus …. it will be gud for some kids that have no idea who VX are they …

    i’m not being narow minded or whut .. ok lets say if kids went there and didn’t get the cd .. so how ? still have to pay RM15 ? why not juz only RM10 ? … don’t mention it free coz it juz for first 100 person only … so whut u think if juz only first 100 kids pay RM15 .. after that all RM10 … easy right .. ? fair i think … how about other … no force in it … wanna a cd juz add RM 5 … don’t want juz RM 10 …

    i also have some friends juz want to see VX only so probally VX will played at last right ? u think that time the door still have to pay or not ? i think sure have to pay right ? but how much ? …

    wrt pricing. I think RM 15 is fair. It’s about 3-4 packs of cigarettes if you’re a smoker or a couple of beers. I’m sure one could abstain. I’d personally see 4 bands playing full sets (45 min to 1 hour) than 8 bands playing 20 minutes.

    Even if 500 people come, you’d make RM 7,500. I’m betting that wouldn’t even cover a foreign band’s plane fare and daily expenses.

    Take note:

    a) Gigs are luxury items, like cigarettes and entertainment. They’re not a necessity. You pay the price if you want to go to them.

    b) Gig organizers are neither your parents nor are they charities. They’re not going to give you a free handout. If they were going to give hand outs, they’d be better off channeling money to Food Not Bombs or something to give someone a meal or clothes on their back rather than providing you cheap entertainment (see a).

    c) If you want something at RM5 or RM10, pressure your universities or colleges to organize gigs and subsidize. Then again, you have no say in your student governments. Wait a minute, there’s no such thing as student governments. Forget this unless there’s something you can do about it.

    d) Make friends with the rich kids. Get them to bring you home to their folks. Perhaps they’d have some pity and throw you a couple of coppers. Wait a minute, that ain’t right, I expect organizers to subsidize my entertainment habit but asking rich kids for money would be like begging.

    e) Or perhaps, you could work double/triple shifts (if you work at all) to make some money to feed my entertainment habit.

    f) Rally for a socialist or communist state, then everything’s subsidized. Wait a minute, they’ll probably ban rock & roll/punk/ everything hedonistic.

    Welcome to the real world. Get ready to work, make money and part with it.

So as I discuss with bob karatekore records, the best way is to give free CD to all the people who enter. It is the free CD, you got it. And please take note that if u surf http://www.havocrex.com, u have to pay USD 8 for down the drain CD, go to commitment records, they charge u USD 5 per 7″ and go to underestimated records, they charge u USD 10 per CD. And why dont u watch vitamin X live and buy one CD so u can keep it up for the rest of ur live. Unless u fucking died early or someone stole it for u. You see, its memorable to have a CD and watching them playing live. Isn’t it? What else should be complain. huh!

    And i wonder where the appreciation had gone. The vitamin X gig is done volunteerly by some friends and we do all(everything), from finding a venue, dealing with band, discussing about acommodation, plan about the ticket price etc. Its all volunteer, so nora|danis|h|666, please do email me if u can help!     rationality in making statement is rather useless for us if personal arguement being the goblin monster who conquer our already pesimistic mind! The issue regarding of the high rate entrance fee and the least amount of band playing is totally ridiculous and rather stupid for us to heat it up anyway.I agree that it should be more bands playing in the gig and mind you the kronisme + pilih bulu sentiment do exist in our scene…haha…Why does it happen?My opinion it is because everyones rather want to be worshipped as god and wanted us to worshipped them as an ethical,have more music influence and blabla….related stuff….Aren’t diy hc/punk scene is a scene which is for us to be tolerated,compassionate and treat people with equality?There is really a hierarchy system in our scene and it fukken piss me off because i thought diy hc/punk scene really a place or all!Therefore i rather be a “x pendirian” person! I love hc/punk and i really dont mind if someone want to labeled me as a poseur or what not.At least i dont steal tv,backstabbing my own friends,telling jokes that are totally nihilistic and giving words of a escapist…hahak…

    i’ll keep this posting brief, we at papakerma recs plan to organize a tour for 3 japanese band scheduled in the end of march/early april next year (2006). they are;

    cynics 19 – fastcore/power violence
    the act we act – hc/punk ala swing kids
    forget me not – hc/emo

    we are currently still on negotiation basis but they are kind of 100% sure about the tour. and there’s a possiblility more

    foreign bands will be joining in (japan, euro, usa etc) therefore, we would like to know;-

    1) is there any other band touring at that moment
    2) if so, maybe we could collaborate
    3) if not, we would like seek help for co-organizing, and helping us directly and indirectly throughout the tour.

    it has been planned that the duration shall be between 7-10 days. they would like to cover a few states and we think the best

    would be:

    1) central region – kuala lumpur
    2) north region – penang @ kedah @ ipoh
    3) south region – jb @ malacca @ seremban
    4) singapore

    therefore, it would be great it we could get a helping hand from people from different regions. help could be in term of :

    i) co-organizing
    ii) sponsorship
    iii) releases (financially or distribution)
    iv) merchandising (t-shirt printing, buttons, patches,etc)

    we also would even be happier if we could make it to eastern region of peninsular as well as sabah/sarawak. yah…so just

    i’m kinda in hurry, its exam week now, d’oh! =( so there might be lots of thing that i’ve been missing out, let me noticed!

    setelah baca semua post kat sini. Just wanted to let u all know that Vitamin X memang dah lama intent nak dtg. Since year 2000 bila depa find out they have many contacts and fans from malaysia after i’ve released the first Vitamin X “discography” in Malaysia. Memang depa dah nak sangat main kat Malaysia tme tu lagi.

    In 2001/2002, i’ve even call Marko direct from Malaysia to Holland and spoke with him bout playing over here. Marko memang busy sikit ngan study and all pada masa tu and dia memang pernah berkata depa akan main di Malaysia if depa dapat buat show sebanyak yang mungkin di Japan kerana depa boleh buat duit yang lebih disana supaya dapat membeli tambang ticket kapal terbang ke Malaysia. Sekarang terbukti yang depa akan bermain disini after few shows in Japan.

    Tak kisahlah tak ada local acts youth crew yang main sekali..that’s not important…tak semestinya bila ada youthcrew sxe band dari luar perform kena ada local punya youthcrew band main sekali. Just come to the gig and get involved sudah la…

    About rip-off thing tu aku tak tahu citer..harga tiket lak..hmm..Rm15 abit pricey if semua local acts yang main but itu based kat tempat venue depa tmpah la. Ada venue yang charge mahal so tu pepandai organizer la nak kautim…or maybe cari tempat lain. but if tempat lain dah tak da gak..pepandailah bargain…but since ada band dari luar..to me Rm15 is ok la…ni pandangan aku la…

     ermmm gud idea for that to collaborate to arrange the VX show someweher on next time … :) … anyway the day juz only left 3 days something like that … and we already know that the venue already change … so hope we can give this info to others … so i hope on that day there will have some simple conversation about this .. maybe during the band perfoming or after that .. i think better during the band performing .. coz if after event the kids already went back already …. the idea is juz to clear the situation …. What if ppl cari makan through hardcore? tak salah bagi aku jual lah rm15 3 band pun. aku rasa aku pegi kalau aku suka. Jam studio RM10 sejam. rokok dunhill 14 tak silap aku RM2.50 sekotak. nasi lemak bungkus 50 sen. time tu tiket RM8/RM10. enough for the bands la. nowadays we have “air kosong” sold in bottles!! kalu you tell me in 1995 that people will soon buy “bottled water” at RM1.80 each bottle then I will laugh at you la!

     anyway, i get what you mean. and thanks for the comments. it’s never terlambat la.

     Agree to that Joe..but also don’t forget joe..masa tu punya gig pun dah Rm15…that was 10 years ago when everything was cheap…i assume u must ingat masa you run AGE how much was the kaset masa tu and dah berapa kali harga dah naik…? Byk kali kan? Now tempat nak sewa pun mahal, buat kaset, cd pun naik harga (next year minyak naik lagi sure naik lagi) but then many or record labels still maintain the price of their tape since the last 10 years..also the ticket…people should appreciate and thankful to that…RM15 is damn cheap (to me la even i’m jobless now).

     Well almost everyone tunggu. I think the organizer and friends dah cuba announce kat semua org about the delay before the gig and a day before (check my post atas ada announce gak..sori la sapa yang tak sempat tgk). Benda tak boleh di elakkan. VX get a delay flight and dah tak leh nak buat apa kan? U should be thankful la coz kalau nak ikutkan..after depa playing in Singapore pada hari Khamis..depa patut main di KL pada mlm Jumaat…the organizer and kids minta favor so depa pi main Filipina dulu then baru sini….but then flight delay probs lak muncul at last minute..but hey..they show up and that’s the important thing. Glad that they make it to happen and everyone enjoy it!!! Hope everyone get their messege!!!

     Bagi ku, perihal buat cassette/CD & bikin rakaman ni lain sikit. Dulu nak rakam mahal, tu yang jadi ramai bands join label-label yang ada (kecik atau besau) semata-mata nak merakam. tapi sekarang ni, recording dah murah gila. buat sendiri kat rumah pun pass! memang kalau boleh, kita nak yang best-best sebijik Clay Records misalannyalah, tapi kalu dah tak mampu, buat simple-simple kat jam studio pun beres. kalau dulu, tak bayar RM80/100 sejam tak rakam la kamu. Itu tak termasuk “quarter-inch” tape untuk master dan pelbagai kerenah studio lagi! Lepas tu nak press pulak, tak boleh 100, 200 keping, terpaksa print 1,000 atau pun 500 (tapi harga untuk 500 keping tak berbalai dengan harga 1,000!, so 1,000 jugak lah). so aku pikir, that’s why harga-harga kaset/CD masih boleh dipertahankan. kalau naik pun, 2, 3 to 5 ringgit, but that’s undertstandable lah.

     Apa yang penting, dalam part ni lah, The Bollocks’ Revolution memang beri tamparan hebat untuk everyone to find other alternatives. Tak silap The Bollocks recorded that for around RM90! Tabik tegap to those guys! Agak susah nak ulang balik apa yang tercapai oleh The Bollocks tapi pokoknya kita tak perlu ada 5 atau 7 ribu nak buat album lagi dah.

     anyway, disaster bila nak ada release baru?

     Come on music not important? Then who gonna listen to your opinion. MUSIC its the tools of hardcore to break the barrier. Its always does till now. If not who gonna listen to Earth crisis if the music not good? And who gonna read your writing if you have no point? The only part that make hardcore good its music. You like music and everyone does. Especially if we can see real good bands play. And we will surely wanted to know what they all about. Thats why they have review. and ppl buy the product at any cost because the music. not the lyrics. But if someone want to read a good expression. buy books. But i guess some of us especially teenager (no offence but not all i guess) hates book. and music the only way they found easyly related. You way too childish boy. DO understand that part of teenage angst is they want it to be simple. And they turn to art music and fashion as their statement. Not some library books. BUCKS yah this is always be the ISSUE. BUCKS and BUCKS we fight each other because someone making more or someone making less. From then till now. Its always does. But we live in real world. we live that the needs to survive and to always continue what we always love is bucks. RM7000 to do recordings and production still expensive. if you cant sell your band music even as cheap at RM5 for cd. u wont get back your money back. It doesnt matter actually if the product its RM15 per cd the thing its the hardwork and helping out band that really matters.And if a label gain something and still help the kids or bands.It does not matter wether the label goin to be rich as long they come from the kids and helpin the kids.. We are not the corporate. We do not one to become like them,Aite? Music again some of us always do not appriciate the art of music. And we always counted our money for the products that run by the kids. Why it happen? We also forgot every hardwork need to be accounted for. Thats DIY. Thats why it will result to networking and growness of the music. Why we need too cheap price if band not been paid? Or distributor only get 0.50cents for the distribution while distributor spend the hardwrk carrying the cd all around to sell it. Where is our DIY network? where is work for hardcore to hardcore. We are not wrking with it. Because we always argue things that doesnt matter. DIY my ass dont you see? While we are not wrking together we like to place our hatred to someone who you choose as scapegoat. in states they have been selling 7″ for 5Us dollar for years. since 1980. Why is it? and it doesnt matter what kind of band it would be that price. And 10Us dollar for CD. Till now,, why because simple every part of the US10 are made for band distributor and label. RM10 in malaysia its way too cheap for malaysian band to survive. If not they’ll be lots of band do recordings this day. But what can i see band or label to came out RM7000? cheap its way out the line man, Its expensive. If a label sell rm15 for full length its still cheap. At least the money they get from selling would be to support other band. That included shows too? We wanna change their mind about understanding how important to do shows which can pays? no one will understand that joe. simple example look at Boy is enuf, EVery liltle things about our music does not grow if we cant impress the ppl who listen to it. And how you wanna change ppl mind with what we have in mind?

     Boy or anyone can we look at our lifes now. What we are before we saying something about others.?
     We have no control. We still robots waking up every morning doing something you are not. The only things that can give you control is the music.

     Good one John Doe!

     I’m also really glad to know that all the bands that played the Vita X show made some money for their effort. The organiser can clear up more about this but i think the fact that many people went and supported the show made it all worthwhile; I heard there were about 300 kids!! That’s a major contributor to the money factor. and in a way, i wanna say thanks to all who went, even though I’m NOT involved at all and I was not even there! But it just made me feel good to hear that it well well.

     So if we refer back to the days of yore (94-96), there were also a lot of kids at the shows (roughly 350 kids pers show), which made it okay to put the tickets at RM10, just like the Vita X show yesterday. But I do wonder what gonna happen if there was no “Vitamin”, lets say only local bands playing, will the bands and organisers still make that much? I wonder.

     In hindsight, I think if we can get the same amount of kids at the shows again and again in these days, then RM10 would be alright still. But it is quite rare nowadays isn’t it?

     So I have to say the ideal gig for me for 2005 is RM 12 to RM15 (depending on the venues) with 4/5 bands, with at least 2 “excellent” bands, 2 “upcoming” and/or one that’s just making it’s first few forays. The first two to tarik the crowd to come, the 2nd two to showcase not-so-new bands and the third one to help a new struggling one. That would be good, it would be a win-win situation, but of course, we need to see more support for such changes.

     We have to see the big picture here. The more money we made for the organisers & bands, the livelier the scene will be, the more semangat for everybody, especially if the bands are good and put up worthwhile shows: and that can only happen if the bands would practice more, which of course, involved money! So it works both ways lah.

     More importantly though, this apply for the REAL conscientious organisers lah, not the type yang “buat-gig-utk-beli-rumah”, out to exploit people and nothing else; money made would not be used back for the scene mah.

     I also think that organisers and bands involved should work their arses off to TRY make the gig really happening. And it’s not just about playing good, but also running it good; have fair distribution of profit, have smooth stage transitions, do exhausting promotion of the show (hit the public!), treat everybody right (yes, the paying audience deserves the best!) and most importantly, get good bands or at least nurture the bands that have potential to be really good!

     all in, you reap what you sow.

I respect ngan apa yang ko tulis tu…i don’t know hang refer tu kat sapa..do you really know me? aku tak arguee anything bout what is hardcore or punk? and what is DIY, etc…..i only said to Autie Tim…memang betul la music playing important role but tu terpulang kat band la..tak semua band perfect or have a good sound and that’s make most band special..sound tenggelam ke musik tak best ke..that’s art!!!! To me la..to you bukan then fine…but jgn condemn like they don’t deserve to be on that stage….depa pun nak spread messege…

     the gig run well with no blood incident :) I got a bad flu today!
     And the ticket sold around 326 so as the deal is 50 / 50 , the organizer get RM 1630
     so here is the cost go:
     Local bands get Rm 150 each bands = 6 x Rm 150 = RM 900
     Vitamin X got RM 400
     The instrument cost RM 150
     There is 4 organizer and each person got RM 45 = RM 180
     TOTAL = RM 1630.

     Thanks for those who support!! Buying the CD!! And helping us a lot during the gig.
