Modar: In My Meditation Time CD – Out Now!
The first and now legendary 1992 album, Inferior Symphony, made Modar the first local doom metal band to commit their sound on a full-length. And it was released just after FTG’s first EP and also Cromok’s Image of Purity demo; two of the first Malaysian underground metal releases ever.
Coming in from Terengganu, Modar featured a bunch of kids who were pretty much determined to make their own mark in the scene. And what a mark it was, Modar’s take on doom metal was unique; it was deeply sombre, the usual bleak atmospherics BUT without the usual Western bombast; it’s undeniable Malaysian and nobody sounded like them.
Modar as a band was living the life back then. They came down to KL from Kuala Terengganu; shared a small room in Gombak and worked their arses off. The problem was that they were far ahead of their time. That album didn’t sell well, the band played a few (now legendary) gigs but later split-up due to an internal strife.
In My Meditation Time is a self-released CD. It’s the return of Modar with only one original member, but he’s the main artery of the band ever since Modar was born. I must admit it’s a bit different now, there’s that bombastic Paradise Lost feel to it now. But do check it out yrself lah.
