Devilica & BOWD: A Short Review
Devilica
The Journey Continues CD
(Third Arm Records)
Blood On Wedding Dress
Blood On Wedding Dress CD
(Satire Records, Japan)
Seems like speeding at breakneck velocity is no longer a must but going at it with the agility of The Fantastic Four’s Human Torch is also one of the main pillars.
Devilica and Blood On Wedding Dress are intense young men going for the kill, zig-zagging through a warped and chaotic sonic tapestry with carefully-honed skill and precision. They are able to stop on a dime and then turn around 270 degrees without a pause, and they would leap over the walls in a single bound.
Their roots lie in post-hardcore, especially of the monstrous but frantic sorts, just like a bunch of ultra-sophisticated tanks with wings and jet-propellers strapped under their bellies.
If you wanna go further into the origins, Dillinger Escape Plan would comes to mind, but i would rather point to the old San Diego post-HC era with bands such as Antioch Arrow, Clikitat Ikatowi, Heroin, Mohinder and most of the stuff coming out of Gravity Records.
That said, The Locust they are not; there are hints of metal, while some people would confuse some parts as grindcore. Whatever it is, it’s all about dishing sonic confusion and both bands managed it well.
They are bands with bees in their bonnet and both are very good at what they are doing. And what they are doing is mixing genres, delivered with non-traditional time-signatures and nonsensical song titles.
Is it good? You bet. I like both bands. As somebody who sometimes would sit down with a mini-disc recorder and try hard at writing songs which I would later offer to my band, I find these guys crazy. I mean it in a good way. It’s pretty easy to come up with a riff or two for a song but these people would cram in 20 different riffs, bridges and time changes in one song, all going in different tangents too!
That said, I would not be able to play them constantly though. I marvel at the virtuosity but after a few listens, I would be craving for a bit of uncomplicated tunage. I’m very bad at math anyway.
Both CDs are now available at The Ricecooker Shop.

hello ejoi.. thanx anyway sebab bgtau.. persamaan tu mungkin x disengajakan n memang kebetulan.. thanx jugak bgtau so at least boleh gak aku tau.. hehe.. banyak lagi artwork kt malaysia nih yg sama mcm band2 lain.. skull with wings yg mcm caliban tuh, tulisan stencil, n logo ol skool.. so it’s no big deal anyway.

I just want to say that before thing gets sillier than it already is, we’ve got to put a stop to this cover thing. I’m not saying that album cover is not important but music is judged by music I’m afraid. So the right thing to do is, if you like what the review said then go and buy the damn thing, it’s simple as that.
Don’t judge a book just by the cover
Unless you cover just another-Sex Pistols
